The co-chairs of the Berlin Process Security Working Group (SWG) for Libya have issued a strong commendation for the ongoing efforts to reach a security agreement between the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU) and the Deterrence Apparatus for Combating Organized Crime and Terrorism.
In a statement released following a high-level meeting on Monday, the international partners applauded the progress and called for a peaceful and timely resolution to the remaining outstanding issues. They emphasized the critical need for any final agreement to be implemented in a “time-bound and tangible” manner.
The statement also contained a urgent appeal for all parties to “exercise calm and restraint to prevent any incidents of violence and harm to the civilian population,” underscoring the fragile security situation on the ground.
The SWG meeting, held on September 4th, brought together the co-chair ambassadors from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the African Union, France, Italy, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom.
The discussions were attended by key Libyan officials, including the Chief of General Staff and head of the Truce Committee, the Advisor of the President of the Presidential Council, and a representative of the Security and Military Arrangements Committee.
