Tripoli – Several densely populated areas are active in Tripoli. These include the Abu Salim and Salah al-Din districts. Numerous civil society organizations are making continuous efforts. They provide daily Iftar meals to those fasting. They also distribute Ramadan baskets to needy families. This aid benefits Arab and African laborers. It also supports passersby.
Zainab Al-Zarroug is the director of Naseem Al-Salam Society. She stated that several civil organizations adopted this initiative. These include Aghsan Al-Khair Society. Jisr Al-Tawasul Organization also participates. Renewable Creativity Society is also involved. Members and some women help prepare the meals. They also prepare the Ramadan baskets. Businessmen and traders provide the necessary provisions.
These baskets contain essential foodstuffs. They include oil, tomatoes, and rice. Couscous, milk, and dates are also provided. Meat and vegetables complete the provisions.
Al-Zarroug explained the initiative’s scope. It is implemented across Libya at Ramadan’s start. “Mawaed Al-Rahman,” or Mercy Tables, are set up. These tables appear in various areas of Tripoli. Charitable people contribute to preparing Iftar meals. Some individuals provide ready-made food. Others offer financial assistance. Many more participate through their voluntary efforts.
She added that about 100 diverse Iftar meals are prepared daily. These meals are served at the tables. They include traditional dishes favored by Libyan families. Dates, milk, juices, and water are also offered. These provisions cater to passersby. This includes Arab and African communities. The initiatives will continue throughout Ramadan.
The Naseem Al-Salam Society director highlighted another point. The Mercy Tables are organized as volunteer social initiatives. They are held throughout the holy month. Various parts of Libyan society compete to organize them. This shows the strong spirit of solidarity. It also reflects harmony among citizens. Citizens coordinate spontaneously to gather food. This food is then cooked. Volunteers distribute the meals. These go to impoverished families. This effort continues throughout Ramadan.
