The head of the Supreme Council of State, Mohamed Tekala, discussed with the U.S. Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, the anticipated initiative of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, to resolve the political crisis in Libya, which he intends to announce in the coming days, according to the media office of the Supreme Council of State.
Earlier, Tekala arrived in the U.S. capital, Washington, on an official visit accompanied by a delegation from the Council of State, including council members Jumaa Al-Shawish, Hassan Al-Habib, and Mohamed Maazab.
On Monday, Tekala and the accompanying delegation held a meeting at the U.S. State Department with Ambassador Norland and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Joshua Harris.
The media office of the Supreme Council of State said that the meeting between Tekala and U.S. officials “focused on the most important political files in the Middle East, in addition to ways to resolve the Libyan political crisis, and there was also dialogue about the initiative of the UN envoy to Libya, which he claims to present soon.”
Earlier yesterday, the media office announced that during a phone call with Tekala, the UN Envoy presented an initiative to resolve the political crisis that the UN Support Mission in Libya intends to launch in the coming period, without providing details.
