The American authorities recall more than 6,000 bags of M&M's candy due to allergy risk

Washington – US authorities have recalled over 6,000 bags of repackaged M&M’s candy. This recall follows the discovery of a labeling error. This error could endanger individuals with allergies.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clarified the situation. Beacon Promotions failed to include necessary allergen warnings on the packaging. The candy contains milk, soy, and peanuts. These ingredients were not listed on the outer bags. This poses a severe risk to allergic individuals. Life-threatening allergic reactions are a concern.

The company initiated the recall on January 26. The FDA classified it as a Class II recall on February 4. This means the product may cause temporary or reversible health effects. The probability of serious harm is low.

Experts warn that consuming this candy can cause severe allergic reactions. Symptoms include rashes, swelling, and difficulty breathing. Anaphylactic shock, including vomiting, could be life-threatening within minutes. Allergic individuals are advised not to eat the candy. They should dispose of it immediately.

The recall includes 1.3-ounce bags of M&M’s Peanut and Classic candy. These were designed for companies and events. They were not intended for retail sale. Distribution occurred in 20 US states. These states include California, Texas, Florida, and New York.

Reactions vary based on the type of allergy. Milk allergies can trigger anaphylactic shock. Symptoms include rashes, vomiting, wheezing, and swelling. A significant drop in blood pressure is also possible. Even slight exposure to peanuts can cause a systemic reaction. This often requires carrying an epinephrine auto-injector. Soy allergies may cause rashes, itching, digestive issues, and swelling. Severe cases can lead to anaphylactic shock.

Beacon Promotions is based in Minnesota. The company specializes in designing promotional products. These products include custom M&M’s candy packaging bearing client logos. Prominent entities received these promotional materials. They include Subaru, Morgan Stanley, Adobe, Xfinity, and Best Western. Universities like Maryland and Liberty also received them.
