Tripoli – The voting process to elect 16 municipal councils in the third group, as designated by the High National Elections Commission, began this Saturday morning. The elections are taking place in a calm and organized atmosphere with notable voter turnout, according to an official statement from the Commission.
Commission board member Abubakr Marda confirmed during a field tour of several polling stations in the southern region that the electoral process is proceeding in an atmosphere of order and discipline, reflecting the awareness of voters and their keenness to exercise their democratic right in a safe and organized environment.
Marda explained that the Commission is directly monitoring the polling process through its offices and administrations in the respective municipalities to ensure the smoothness of the operation and the success of this stage. He noted that today’s achievement is the result of joint cooperation between the Commission, state institutions, civil society, and security agencies.
During his inspection tour, Marda observed the voting process inside the polling centers, inspected the work of the supervising committees, and assessed the level of voter turnout, emphasizing the necessity of adhering to standards and procedures that ensure the integrity and transparency of the elections.
Marda praised the efforts of the polling center staff and commended the role of the security services in securing the centers and providing a safe atmosphere that facilitates citizens’ participation in choosing their local representatives.
According to the Commission, approximately ninety-six thousand male and female voters are expected to go to one hundred and forty-two polling centers, which include three hundred and forty-one stations, to elect seven hundred and forty-three male and female candidates under the dual system (lists/individuals). The polling process continues from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
In support of transparency, the Commission clarified that nearly three thousand observers and candidate agents are participating in monitoring the electoral process to enhance integrity and ensure that the electoral committees perform their duties efficiently.
It also noted that the Commission’s role in oversight is relatively limited, while the direct responsibility for monitoring lies with the candidates’ agents and accredited election monitoring organizations.
