Tripoli – The National Oil Corporation announced on Thursday that operations of the Russian tanker “Arctic Metan Gas” are continuing. The marine tugboat “Merdive” is carrying out these operations. “Merdive” belongs to Mellitah Oil & Gas Company. The work is within a site designated by the Ports and Maritime Transport Authority.
The corporation clarified that the tanker covered about 43 nautical miles. Its speed was 2.9 knots. It reached 35.5 nautical miles as its closest point to land. The tugboat “Misrata” joined the operation. This was to enhance escorting, security, and emergency response measures.
The corporation emphasized the pivotal role of the Coast Guard and Port Security Agency. They secured the tanker and tugboats. They ensured maritime safety. Continuous monitoring is underway. This is done through operations rooms at the Ports Authority. A joint operations room at the Search and Rescue Center also monitors.
Emissions measurement teams confirmed no oil leaks were detected. This is part of a strategy to protect the marine environment. It also ensures public safety.
