Tripoli – The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of a foreign national. He holds Egyptian citizenship. This is linked to his involvement in civil status data forgery. This allowed him and his family to obtain official documents. These documents falsely affirmed their Libyan citizenship.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office stated this in a release. The accused had issued a family card. This was from the Eastern Desert office in 1996. He paid 150 Libyan dinars to a staff member. He exploited his official position. He also violated civil status laws.
The statement added that another employee later participated. The forgery extended to Libyan nationality data in 2002. A certificate was issued. It stated the accused belonged to Libyan origin. A family card was also issued. It listed four of his children: three males and one female.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office statement indicated that the four children obtained official papers. These papers were based on the forged documents. They conferred Libyan citizenship status. This allowed them to enjoy exclusive rights. These rights are limited to Libyan citizens.
The statement confirmed that the Benghazi Court of Appeal issued an order. This followed the investigation committee’s procedures. It ordered the detention of the foreign accused pending investigation. It also directed the suspension of all documents based on the forgery. The court ordered the arrest of employees who conspired with the foreign national.
