Tripoli – The United Nations celebrated its 80th anniversary by organizing a photographic art exhibition titled “Building Our Future Together” at Dar Iskandar for Arts in Tripoli.
The opening was attended by a number of Libyan officials, international ambassadors, and representatives of the UN Country Team in Libya, along with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, who in her speech emphasized the importance of supporting Libyan youth and enhancing their participation in building the country’s future.
The exhibition aims to highlight the United Nations’ partnership with the Libyan people in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development. It also commemorates the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945, affirming the organization’s role in upholding the values of peace, justice, and human rights over eighty years.
The ceremony included a panel discussion where a group of youth, women, and persons with disabilities presented their aspirations and hopes for the future of Libya, in the presence of representatives from several UN agencies and programs operating in the country.
It is worth noting that Libya was one of the first countries to gain its independence with the support of the United Nations system, based on General Assembly resolutions in 1949. The United Nations continues its support for a stable and prosperous future for the country.
