The Ministry of Education of the Government of National Unity, through the Educational Facilities Authority, has called on education controllers in various municipalities to circulate to principals of schools within their jurisdiction the necessity of conducting periodic inspections of school building roofs, coinciding with the start of the rainy season and the approach of winter.
The Authority explained in its circular on Saturday that follow-up teams have noticed moisture seeping into the walls and ceilings of some schools due to rainwater accumulating on roofs. This is caused by blocked water drainage openings (gutters) from the accumulation of dust and debris, or the use of roofs to store old materials and seats, which obstructs natural water drainage.
The Authority emphasized that conducting this preventive inspection would help avoid costly future maintenance and reduce health problems that moisture can cause for staff and students within educational institutions.
The Educational Facilities Authority concluded its call by stressing the importance of adhering to the instructions in the circular to preserve the safety of school buildings and the quality of the educational environment. It noted that these measures are part of general preparations for the winter season to ensure the educational process continues in safe and healthy conditions.
