Benghazi – The Office for the Support and Empowerment of Women at the University of Benghazi concluded a specialized training course in sewing and design on Tuesday, titled “Self-Sufficiency and Acquiring the Necessary Skills to Enhance the Quality of Local Production.” The course ran for a full month of intensive training, held three days a week, with the participation of a group of women from various age groups and social backgrounds.
Mervat Douma, the director of the Office for the Support and Empowerment of Women at the University of Benghazi, explained to the Libyan News Agency that this course was part of efforts to enhance women’s capabilities and empower them economically by acquiring practical skills that contribute to the development of local production. She added that the participants’ commitment and their desire to hone their skills show a growing awareness of the importance of self-reliance and active engagement in the labor market.
Douma confirmed that the trainees received specialized practical training in fashion design and execution using modern and professional methods, qualifying them to improve the quality of artisanal production and giving them the ability to launch their own projects capable of supporting the local economy. She stressed that this step reflects the office’s vision of making women a fundamental pillar in the development process by empowering them with sustainable production tools that add value.
She also noted that the course concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to the participants in recognition of their efforts, emphasizing that the office is working on launching other, more diverse training programs in the coming period to include multiple fields that contribute to empowering both university and community women.
This initiative is part of the University of Benghazi’s leading role in serving the community and enhancing women’s capabilities, in line with sustainable development goals, especially those related to economic and social empowerment.
