Three members of an armed cell were killed during an armed clash with a Ministry of Interior force, during a raid carried out on Wednesday morning on a house where the cell was barricaded in the Hay Al-Andalus district of the capital, Tripoli.
The operation also resulted in the death of two members of the Ministry of Interior, while two members of the cell were arrested, and a third was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Office of the Military Prosecutor for the Western Region announced the immediate launch of an investigation into the incident, clarifying that the cell includes convicts and former inmates. One of the arrested individuals confessed to belonging to a company led by the so-called (A.K.), a prominent leader of the terrorist organization ISIS in the city of Derna. Its members were recruited by the so-called Osama Najim to carry out hostile acts against government forces and some high-ranking officials in the region.
The competent prosecutor went to the scene of the incident, where he conducted a preliminary examination of the bodies of the deceased and ordered their referral to a forensic doctor to determine the cause and time of death. The seized weapons, ammunition, and explosives were also secured and referred to a specialized expert for examination and the preparation of a comprehensive technical report.
The Office of the Military Prosecutor affirmed that the acts committed by the cell’s members constitute serious terrorist crimes punishable by law, emphasizing that investigations will continue and the necessary legal measures will be taken against those involved.
