The capital, Tripoli, witnessed heavy traffic congestion on Al-Bifi Road this Monday morning due to the accumulation of rainwater that has been falling since dawn, causing slow traffic and partial blockages in some lanes, according to an awareness statement issued by the Tripoli Security Directorate to citizens.
The Directorate explained that traffic teams are working to regulate traffic and clear the congestion, urging drivers to exercise extreme caution while driving in rainy conditions, and to reduce speed and increase the safety distance between vehicles to avoid skidding or losing control on wet roads.
In the same context, the General Company for Water and Sanitation announced that it has begun work to clear rainwater drainage manholes on the road of the Souq Al-Jumaa services center, as part of its efforts to alleviate citizens’ suffering and address the water accumulations that have disrupted traffic.
The company also reported rainwater overflow in Martyrs’ Square and its surrounding areas, confirming that its field teams have already started opening drainage manholes and removing obstructions to facilitate water flow.
These conditions were accompanied by an intensive deployment of traffic police at various intersections and main streets in the capital to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of citizens, despite the difficult weather conditions caused by the heavy rain.
This comes as the National Meteorological Center expects the continuation of moderate autumn weather over the next two days in most parts of the country, with an increased chance of rainfall in the northern regions, especially the eastern ones, along with a gradual decrease in temperatures starting from mid-week.
