Dr. Mahmud Elforjani, the Executive Director of the National Development Agency, announced on his Facebook page the trial operation and the opening to public traffic of the “Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar” bridge in the city of Sirte today, Friday, August 15, 2025. This achievement marks a significant step in the strategic projects for developing the country’s infrastructure.
Located on the international coastal highway, the bridge forms a vital artery connecting eastern and western Libya. According to Dr. Elforjani’s post, “All commercial and human movement, as well as vehicles and goods between eastern and western Libya, now passes over the great bridge whose name is linked to the Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.”
This project, which took a full year to complete, stands as one of the most prominent achievements of the National Development and Development Agency under “Libya Vision 2030,” which aims to reconstruct and develop the country. The project was executed through a joint effort between Libyan engineers from the agency and partner companies from the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Dr. Elforjani extended his sincere thanks to the “young engineers at the National Development and Development Agency for their work over an entire year to complete this major project,” and also praised the role of the “partner companies from the Arab Republic of Egypt in this achievement.”
The new bridge is expected to significantly facilitate transportation and trade, and enhance economic and social exchange between all Libyan regions, making it more than just an infrastructure project, but a symbol of unity and development in a new era of Libya’s history.
