Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as “ugly act” that touched the Turkish flag during the Libyan Parliament’s session for the annual budget in Tobruk.
“We strongly condemn the ugly act that took place in front of the temporary building of the House of Representatives in Tobruk,” announced Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ambassador Tanju Bilgic.
“Immediately after learning of the heinous act, our Tripoli Embassy made the necessary written and verbal initiatives before the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and demanded that necessary measures be taken to prevent such provocations and to prevent similar incidents from recurring,” Bilgic added.
“This attack on our flag, which represents our independence and sacred values, will never achieve its goal,” the Turkish official said, adding that the necessary response will be given by “the friendly and brotherly Libyan people before anyone else.”
It is noteworthy that a number of protesters had demonstrated in Tobruk during the Prime Minister’s visit on Monday, where they placed the Turkish flag in the way of the Prime Minister’s convoy so that the Prime Minister’s car runs over it, but the Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry, Faraj Aqaim, mediated and ended the protest.
