Stephanie Williams, the U.N. Advisor on Libya, met in Cairo today with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, to brief him on the ongoing Libyan talks held in the Egyptian capital, which aim to bring consensus between the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State regarding the legal framework for elections in the country.
During the meeting, Williams expressed her “sincere gratitude for the support extended to the UN good offices in Libya, and stressed the important role of regional organizations and neighboring countries in constructively supporting Libya to move forward towards credible and inclusive national elections,” according to a tweet by the U.N. diplomat.
