DSRSG, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya, Georgette Gagnon, on Monday expressed UN commitment to working with authorities to support with the issue of the raising groundwater in the streets of Zliten, Western Libya.
Gagnon said UN is committed to offer technical support to assess the situation and jointly identify urgent response strategies to address potential risks to affected people and communities.
It is noteworthy that World Health Organization (WHO) team on Sunday undertook a mission to Zliten to assess the potential environmental and public health risks of the raising groundwater in the streets and houses in the municipality, according to WHO.
The team’s visit came in coordination with the Libyan National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Ministry of Health, IOM Office in Libya said in a statement.
