The United States Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, spoke on the phone on Friday with the leader of Libya’s Toubou Congress, Issa Abdul Majeed Mansour, to discuss the problems facing the economic recovery of the country’s southern region, said the US Embassy in Libya on Saturday.
“Ambassador Norland reiterated the need for concerted efforts to ensure the departure of foreign forces, reunify the institutions, and pave the way for parliamentary and presidential elections as scheduled on December 24,” the embassy stated via Twitter.
For his part, Mansour expressed concerns about “fair electoral representation of ethnic and national minorities; and Ambassador Norland reaffirmed U.S. support for this important principle”.
