Washington – US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent spoke on Sunday. He said US-Israeli attacks target Iran’s defenses. These defenses are along the Strait of Hormuz. The goal is their destruction.
Bessent was interviewed on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He stated Trump “will take all necessary steps.” These steps achieve stated US objectives. They include destroying Iran’s air and naval forces. Another goal is preventing Tehran from nuclear weapons. The US also seeks to curb Iran’s international influence.
Bloomberg reported Bessent’s statements. He demanded Iran “fully and safely reopen the strait.” These remarks signal the administration’s resolve. This occurs amid rising domestic oil and gas prices. Midterm elections are also approaching.
Bessent stated, “A campaign uses military assets.” This is to soften Iranian fortifications along the strait. It will continue until they are fully destroyed. He added, “Sometimes you must escalate to de-escalate.”
Bessent said, “Let us bear 50 days of high prices.” This is for 50 years without a nuclear Iran. When asked about oil price drops, he clarified. “I do not know if it will be 50 days or 100 days.”
