The United States began its 2026 World Cup campaign with a decisive 4-1 victory over Paraguay on Friday in Group Four. The match took place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The U.S. team opened the scoring in the seventh minute, after Paraguay defender Damian Bobadilla scored an own goal. Folarin Balogun increased the lead with two goals in the 31st and 45+5th minutes. Giovanni Reyna capped the win with the fourth goal in stoppage time (90+8). Mauricio scored Paraguay’s only goal in the 73rd minute.
The Americans dominated the match, particularly in the first half, and delivered a strong attacking performance in front of nearly 70,000 fans at SoFi Stadium, one of the newest venues in the United States.
In the group’s other match, Canada drew 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina took the lead through Lukic in the 21st minute, but Canada equalized with a goal from Cyle Larin in the 78th minute. Both teams earned a single point in their tournament openers.
Group Four also includes Qatar and Switzerland, who are scheduled to meet on Saturday to complete the first round of matches.
