Libyan political analyst Adel Yassin believes the current international momentum is a rare opportunity. Libyans should seize it. This can save the state from complete institutional collapse.
Yassin made these remarks to the “Al-Ain Al-Akhbariya” website. He said building unified national institutions requires internal consensus. This consensus must be among political and tribal forces. It also needs understandings with external powers supporting different parties.
He pointed out the current government structures are ineffective. This reflects one of Libya’s most serious crises. Continued division and conflict among militias and armed groups could push Libya. It risks becoming a failed or semi-failed state.
Yassin added that armed groups operate outside state institutions. They still view authority as a tool for private interests. This hinders any attempt to build stable institutions. It also prevents enforcing the rule of law.
He affirmed that army unification is not just about security. It is a fundamental condition to end political division. It will also improve the economic climate. This can attract foreign investments.
Yassin explained that reforming the security sector is the main gateway. It can achieve development and lasting stability. Joint military maneuvers between eastern and western forces show an initial desire. Both sides want to join a unified military institution.
He noted the 5+5 Joint Military Committee laid the first groundwork for this path. International efforts continue. They aim to find a consensus formula. This would resolve disputes concerning army leadership and structure.
