Fifty three members of the Tripoli-based High Council of State (HCS) has said in a statement that Oil Minister Mohamed Aoun was suspended due to his opposition to suspicious deals, about which a lot of controversy has been raised recently.
“HCS members followed with great astonishment and concern the suspicious measures taken by the head of the Administrative Control Authority to suspend Mr. Mohamed Aoun, Minister of Oil, from performing his duties without mentioning the reasons for his suspension,” the statement pointed out.
“What made us more astonished was the speed with which someone was assigned to run the Ministry, meaning that the matter was prepared and arranged in advance by the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU),” the statement explained.
“We condemn and denounce these measures, which clarify that the deliberate deportation of the aforementioned minister was due to his opposition to suspicious deals and agreements, about which a lot of controversy has been raised in the past period,” it stressed.
“Council members also consider the oversight institutions’ unprecedented complicity with the government a dangerous matter that deprives them of their assigned oversight role in combating administrative and financial corruption and evaluating the work of state institutions,” the statement added.
“Therefore, we demand that the minister be restored to his duties immediately, that the suspension decision be withdrawn by the Administrative Control Authority, and that appropriate legal measures be taken to restore the situation as it was before the decision,” it concluded.
