House of Representatives member Ammar Al-Ablaq said that the current American steps regarding the independence of economic institutions (the Oil Corporation and the Central Bank) or the coordination of security forces in the east and west cannot be described as opposing the UN mission’s roadmap, in an exclusive statement to the “Asharq Al-Awsat” newspaper.
Al-Ablaq highlighted that Washington might only reveal its alternative plan if the United Nations’ roadmap fails, at which point the ground would be paved for its acceptance, especially if it has reached secret understandings with the influential actors.
He stressed that success depends on the seriousness of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State in changing the commission’s board, agreeing on electoral laws, and not wasting time in disputes between them, as well as on its acceptance by the influential actors.
Despite understanding the doubts of a wide segment of Libyans that the mission’s roadmap is stalling a month after it was proposed, Al-Ablaq called for an understanding of the local and international obstacles facing the UN organization, chief among them the influential actors’ clinging to power.
