Benghazi – Dr. Mohieddin Al-Shukri revealed that he recently addressed the House of Representatives. He requested strict laws and regulations to govern cosmetic procedures. These laws would criminalize illegal practices. He confirmed they are still waiting for decisive executive action. This action aims to control the sector and protect patients from increasing risks.
Al-Shukri explained that qualifying a plastic surgeon requires many years of study. Practical training can extend to about ten years. This is especially true for facial surgeries. These procedures require precise knowledge of human anatomy and high specialized experience. Non-specialists who practice these procedures lack this proper scientific foundation.
Al-Shukri warned against the growing phenomenon of unqualified persons performing cosmetic procedures. He noted that some only have experience from short training courses. These courses may last only one day. Despite this, they perform injections and intervene in delicate medical and surgical fields.
Al-Shukri stated that medical clinics receive cases with serious complications almost daily. These range from facial and mouth deformities to significant psychological and social impacts. The number of cases reaches one or two per day. These errors result from using unsafe materials or interventions by unqualified individuals.
He added that some cases require long treatment periods to repair the damage. This is common with filler injections in the lips and face. Treatment can exceed six months. Some errors lead to permanent deformities that are difficult to treat completely. Serious complications have been recorded, including vision loss due to inaccurate injections in sensitive facial areas.
Al-Shukri emphasized the need for stricter oversight of this sector. He urged citizens not to be lured by low prices or unreliable offers. Patients must verify the competence and experience of cosmetic providers before any medical procedure. This is essential to ensure safety and avoid dangerous complications.
