Cairo – The Arab League strongly condemned Israel’s newly approved plan to reoccupy the Gaza Strip, impose full control over it, and forcibly displace Gaza City residents to a small corner in the south.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the move exposes Israel’s long-standing objective since the start of its assault on Gaza — to seize the entire territory and drive out as many Palestinians as possible — a goal the Arab world firmly rejects and the international community widely denounces.
He warned of the grave consequences of allowing Israel to continue its open-ended military campaign, aimed at erasing the Palestinian cause and national identity, and called for a decisive global stance to stop the escalating bloodshed.
Aboul Gheit added that Israel’s leadership, driven by extremist ideology and narrow self-interest, ignores its growing international isolation and even the fate of Israeli hostages in Gaza.
The plan, approved by Israel’s security cabinet, comes amid a deepening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza after 22 months of war that has left over 61,000 Palestinians dead, more than 152,000 wounded, thousands missing, and hundreds of thousands displaced, with famine claiming many lives, including dozens of children.
