The Arab Parliament welcomed the outcomes of the meeting hosted by the Arab League in Cairo, which brought together the heads of Libya’s three ruling bodies – Mohamed al-Menfi of the Presidential Council, Aguila Saleh of the House of Representatives, and Mohamed Tekala of the High Council of State. The meeting, sponsored by the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, aimed to support a political settlement leading to presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the Arab Parliament stressed its full support for Arab efforts and initiatives that can achieve security, stability in Libya and fulfill the aspirations of its people in line with the supreme national interest. It reiterated its stance supporting Libya’s unity, territorial integrity and rejection of foreign interference.
The Arab Parliament affirmed that the Libyan consensus on holding presidential and legislative elections will play a crucial role in achieving security, stability and development in the country.
At the conclusion of their meeting on Sunday, the Libyan leaders agreed on the necessity of forming a unified government tasked with overseeing the electoral process and providing essential services to citizens, unifying sovereign positions, and reaching consensus on holding a second round urgently to complete and implement this agreement.
