The new Libyan government, headed by Fathi Bashagha, welcomed the statement issued by military leaders from the city of Misurata.
The government said that it “followed the statement issued by military leaders from the city of Misurata, in which they called for rejecting the military escalation, adhering to peaceful ways and following the political approach in managing state affairs and the peaceful transfer of power.”
It added that it welcomes the statement, which is consistent in its content with the principles and policy of the Libyan government and its unequivocal commitment to commence its work from the capital, Tripoli, in accordance with the law and peaceful methods.
The government also held the outgoing government fully responsible for any military escalation that affects security and stability and threatens the safety of civilians.
On Saturday, a number of commanders of the military battalions in Misurata called on both the head of the new Libyan government, Fathi Bashagha, and the head of the outgoing government, Abdel Hamid Dbeibeh, to make the “conflict political” and hold them, along with the United Nations mission, responsible for the bloodshed.
