Benghazi – The College of Medicine at Benghazi University organized the Scientific Day of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology. The event took place on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Academics, doctors, and students participated. Individuals interested in medical and legal fields also attended.
Dr. Samir Al-Marghani is the Head of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department at the College of Medicine. He told Al-Anbaa Al-Libya newspaper that the scientific day was organized. It aims to highlight the academic and regional importance of forensic medicine. He noted that this specialty is a core subject for fourth-year students.
Al-Marghani explained that forensic medicine links medicine and law. It includes anatomical forensic medicine, which deals with deaths. It also covers clinical forensic medicine, which concerns living cases. He emphasized these aspects form the core of the specialty.
He added that the college aims to prepare scientifically qualified graduates. They will be capable of practical application or further specialization. He pointed out that criminal forensic medicine falls under the Ministry of Justice’s judicial expertise system. It is responsible for examining injuries and deaths. Referred cases are often unnatural deaths. These commonly result from accidents, suicide, or murder.
Dr. Zahia Al-Ghazal is the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Human Medicine. She told Al-Anbaa Al-Libya newspaper that the scientific day was titled ‘Forensic Medicine between Health and Law’. She highlighted the critical importance of this specialized medical field. It connects health and legal aspects. This is especially relevant for cases involving medical liability.
She explained that the lectures featured high scientific quality. They addressed issues in the doctor-patient relationship. Legal responsibility was also discussed. Practical recommendations were presented. These aim to serve the community. They also protect the rights of patients and doctors.
Amina Taher, a participating student, stated that the scientific day offered an opportunity. It informed the community about the importance of forensic medicine and toxicology.
