Mahamat Idriss Déby, the transitional president of Chad, held talks on Friday with U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, to discuss the situation in Libya in light of recent instability in the region.
According to a statement by the Chadian presidency, Déby and Norland had an hour-long conversation, in the presence of U.S. Ambassador to Chad Alexander Laskaris.
“The ambassador focused on supporting the United Nations roadmap to hold presidential and legislative elections in Libya by the end of the year,” reads the statement of the Chadian presidency.
“During the talks, the US diplomat also expressed concern about the continuing violence in Sudan, which could undermine efforts to restore peace in Libya,” it added.
