Benghazi – The Community Development Department of Benghazi Municipality concluded its Ramadan program for this year. It held an honoring ceremony on Wednesday evening. The event was titled “Nights of Loyalty.” Six prominent figures were honored during the ceremony. These individuals contributed to academic media, engineering, writing and literature, art, and acting.
The Dean of Benghazi Municipality attended the ceremony. Members of the elected Municipal Council were also present. Writers, literary figures, poets, and cultural enthusiasts from the city participated.
Rehab Shennib is the Head of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Community Development Directorate. She stated to the Libyan News Agency that this initiative honors individuals. These figures have left a clear mark in various fields within Benghazi. She noted this is the second time prominent symbols and outstanding contributors in the city have been honored.
Shennib explained that the honorees included Professor Sakina bin Amer. Engineer Hakam Abdul Malik, writer Mohammed Al-Musallati, and artist Jamal Al-Nuweisri were also honored. Artist Miloud Al-Omrani and artist Abdul Hamid Al-Kilani completed the list.
She affirmed that this initiative is a gesture of appreciation. It shows loyalty to the exceptional contributions made by the honorees in their fields. Shennib acknowledged the difficulty of honoring all talents and elites simultaneously. However, the department aims to regularly celebrate a number of these personalities. This is done according to available resources.
Shennib also revealed that the Cultural Affairs Department plans a post-Ramadan cultural program. This program will include several seminars. These seminars will discuss the reality of culture in Benghazi. They will also explore avenues for its development.
The first group honored earlier included poet Badria Al-Ashhab. Artist Salem Issa, administrator Wanis Rahouma, and writer Mohammed Al-Shahawihdi were also in that group.
This year’s Ramadan program by the Community Development Department featured a poetry evening. It also included a cultural session titled “Benghazi in Their Texts.” Additional honoring ceremonies were held as part of the “Nights of Loyalty” program.
