Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh declared on Monday that Libya’s Fuel subsidy system is “a drain on the state budget”, according to a statement by his media office.
The Tripoli-based premier made his remarks uring a meeting with a government committee tasked with examining alternatives to fuel subsidy.
In the meeting, Dbeibeh was briefed on the results of a study of the General Electricity Company’s consumption of crude oil and gas, the quantities consumed by the Brega Oil Marketing Company, and the proposed alternatives to lifting fuel subsidies.
He underlined the need to face “reality and explain it to citizens, who have been interested in this dossier for many years”, so as to create “trust between citizens and the State”.
