1,068 members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG) have obtained military registration numbers as part of a deal they made with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh in exchange for reopening of oilfields that the PFG forcibly closed, Italian media reported.
Citing a spokesman for the PFG, Italian news agency Nova that the Libyan government already granted military registration numbers 6,000 PFG members since the agreement was made with Dbeibeh on January 10.
The military registration number gives legally identifies its bearer as a person who works legally in Libyan military institutions.
“This decision will lead to solving many problems which were causing protests by many members of the PFG,” Nova quoted the spokesman as saying.
Production in the Libyan oilfields Wafa, El Feel, Sharara and Hamada was restored after Dbeibeh met with PFG representatives last week.
In a statement on January 10, the Libyan government said that Dbeibeh “listened to the demands” of PFG and decided to “form a committee to follow-up on the difficulties they encounter”.
