Bahrain – Libya has been elected as President of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions for 2027. The National Council for Liberties and Human Rights represents Libya. The election occurred at the conclusion of the Executive Committee meetings. It also took place at the 25th General Assembly meeting of the Arab Network. These meetings were held in Manama, Bahrain. Heads and representatives of member national institutions participated. The Network’s General Secretariat was also present.
Libya’s election coincided with the Arab Network’s approval of its 2026 operational plan. This plan includes various programs and activities. These include organizing specialized seminars. It also involves regional and international meetings. The plan aims to enhance cooperation with human rights institutions and relevant bodies. This cooperation spans regional and international levels.
Abdel Mawla Ramadan Abuntisha, acting head of the National Council for Liberties and Human Rights, represented the Council. He addressed the General Assembly. Abuntisha expressed gratitude to the heads of member national institutions. He thanked them for their trust and vote. This vote elected Libya as President of the Arab Network for 2027. Abuntisha confirmed the Council’s readiness to host the Network’s 26th General Assembly meetings in Libya. These meetings are scheduled for January of the coming year.
The meeting’s agenda covered several points. It reviewed updates on the 2025 work plan implementation. Discussions included mechanisms to support national institutions facing challenges. Accreditation issues with the Accreditation Committee were also addressed. The meeting emphasized enhancing cooperation with relevant regional and international organizations. Work programs for 2026 were debated. Proposed activities for the upcoming period were approved. Organizational and administrative issues were discussed. These aim to improve institutional performance. They also seek to strengthen the Network’s operational effectiveness.
During the meeting, the General Assembly adopted the Human Rights Education Guide. This guide covers classroom and extracurricular activities. It serves as a reference tool. The guide supports the dissemination and promotion of human rights culture. It targets educational and community institutions.
At the conclusion of its proceedings, the Arab Network affirmed its firm commitment. It pledged to continue enhancing joint Arab efforts. These efforts focus on protecting and promoting human rights. It also committed to supporting the role of member national institutions. This aligns with international standards and best human rights practices.
