Commenting on the recent statements of the head of the High National Electoral Commission, Emad Al-Sayeh, member of the High State Council, Mohamed Moazeb, said that Al-Sayeh’s statements regarding the readiness of the commission and the possibility of holding the first round of elections at the end of the year are somewhat hasty; legally, the obstacle of agreement between the House of Representatives and the State Council on election laws is still in place.
According to Mohamed Moazeb, The existence of understandings between the head of HSC Khalid Al-Mashri and HoR Speaker Aguila Saleh does not mean reaching a solution to this issue.
The security situation has remained unchanged since the announcement of the failure of the December 24, 2021 elections; stated Moazeb, confirming that nothing has changed on the ground except for shuttle visits between military and security leaders from both sides.
“Perhaps the commission has made some logistical progress as a result of financial support from the government and international parties, but things remain as they are, and fair and transparent elections remain a dream for all Libyans that has not yet been realized,” mentioned Mohamed Moazeb.
