Ghat – Mayor Ahmed al-Dossouqi stated the inauguration ceremony for mayors was held. They took their legal oath before the Minister of Local Governance and the government. He emphasized that border municipalities, including Ghat, are now much more secure than before.
Al-Dossouqi explained this security improvement will help citizens. It will also enable the municipal council to provide better services. This will be done in cooperation with the government and relevant authorities. He stressed that the previously fragile security situation hindered service delivery. The current phase presents a greater opportunity for improvement.
Al-Dossouqi said the municipal council is working on a plan based on its electoral program. The plan focuses on resolving water issues and other essential services for citizens. These are a priority for the upcoming period.
The mayor noted that Ghat faces a major climate change challenge. This is especially true after recent rains affected residents. He explained that the city’s residential area is in the middle of a valley, which increases the risk. He affirmed this issue is a major concern for the people and will be a top priority for the council.
Al-Dossouqi also pointed to a severe shortage, or near-total absence, of doctors. He said Ghat Hospital suffers from inadequate health services. This is due to the municipality’s location as a remote border region.
Al-Dossouqi concluded that the new municipal council has a comprehensive plan. This plan will address these challenges. The council will begin work from the first day to improve services and alleviate citizens’ suffering.
