Libyan Professor of International Relations and Comparative Politics, Ibrahim Heiba, believes the country’s crisis is multifaceted. It is not solely due to increasing foreign interventions, particularly from the United States. The crisis also stems from the absence of an intra-Libyan solution. Such a solution is needed to end the current division.
Heiba made these remarks in exclusive statements to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper. He stated that US policy has been purely pragmatic and economic from the beginning. The policy also seeks to establish a degree of security stability. This stability would protect the interests of its companies. It would also ensure the safety of its experts working in Libya.
Heiba added that this approach, in his view, has largely disregarded the election issue. It has also overlooked the aspirations of the Libyan people. They seek a comprehensive political settlement.
