The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), Aqila Saleh, spoke about reasons that prompted HoR members not to pass the draft general budget submitted by the Government of National Unity.
Saleh said: “Some say that HoR and its president are disrupting the budget, and that I want to appoint an ambassador or something else,” commenting: “Of course, there is no state without a budget, but not everything that is requested is given. HoR members have a clear demand, which is that the military institution should has an estimated and respectable budget through which it can carry out its tasks,” Saleh stated during his meeting with the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, in Al-Rajma on Friday.
He pointed out that the rejection of the budget is also due to the “vague” section of development in the budget, adding that the government did not specify what projects would be implemented in this section, commenting, “the process is subject to tampering.”
“In the future, it is necessary to take into consideration LNA forces; in terms of their leadership, composition and financial support,” HoR Speaker added.
