IOM: 1,788 migrants were returned to Libya last week

IOM: 1,788 migrants were returned to Libya last week

1,788 migrants were intercepted at sea and brought back to Libya during the period of 8-14 August, the International Organization For Migration (IOM) announced on Monday.

According to IOM’s maritime update, 22,045 migrants were returned to Libya since the beginning of this year, 19,583 of whom are men and 1,507 are women. A total of 794 minors were among the returnees.

So far in 2021, 380 migrants have lost their lives during their attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea, while 629 are reported missing, according to IOM’s data.

In the period of 08-14 August, 1,788 migrants were rescued/intercepted at sea and returned to Libya.
