Foxborough – Iraq began its Group 9 campaign with a 4-1 defeat to Norway on Wednesday morning at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, United States. Group 9 also includes France and Senegal. Norway took the lead in the 29th minute with a goal by star striker Erling Haaland. Ayman Hussein equalized for Iraq in the 39th minute. Haaland restored Norway’s advantage with a second goal in the 43rd minute, giving his team a 2-1 lead at halftime. In the second half, Leo ostigard added a third for Norway.
Iraq then conceded a fourth goal when Ayman Hussein accidentally scored an own goal. The match ended with Norway earning their first three points in Group 9, while Iraq suffered their first loss of the tournament.
