Italian Interior Minister, Luciana Lamorgese, stated that Italy would intensify its financial commitment to promoting rural development with a view to stabilizing the Libyan Fezzan region, which is severely affected by migratory flows.
The Minister said its country affirms the depth of awareness of the strategic role that Libya plays for North Africa and the entire Mediterranean, according to the Italian Interior Ministry.
“On our visit to Libya, we affirmed Italy’s desire to speed up the development of project to prevent illegal migration flows and human trafficking, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Interior regarding the southern Libyan borders, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM),” Lamorgese explained.
She added that the visit also focused on enhancing training activity, information exchange and cooperation in investigations regarding widespread transnational criminal networks and terrorist groups, especially along the southern Libyan border.
