Tetouan – The 30th edition of the Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival has kicked off, running until November 1, 2025, after it was postponed from its originally scheduled date in April to October due to financial and logistical difficulties.
In his opening speech, Festival President Ahmed Housni said that the festival serves as a platform for cinema and art that brings cultures together and reflects the values of dialogue and solidarity, stressing that the festival is bigger than any individual and will continue its radiance for future generations, according to Reuters.
This year, the festival honors Jordanian actor Eyad Nassar and Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch. Its events feature 10 films in the official competition, including the two Moroccan films “The Blue Lake” directed by Daoud Aoulad-Syad and “Nocturnal Sonata” directed by Abdelslam Kelai.
Four films are also being screened in the “Coup de Cœur” program for their excellence in themes and artistic vision, and five films in the “Films with an Aura” program, which highlights distinguished and innovative cinematic experiences in the region.
The festival will host two prominent seminars. The first, titled “The State of Comedy Films in the Mediterranean Basin,” features Egyptian critic Osama Abdelfattah and Moroccan critic Mohammed Bakrim. The second, titled “Mediterranean Women Filmmakers… A New Wave?”, features Moroccan actress and director Zakia Tahiri and French screenwriter Laure Piani.
The festival’s activities will continue to offer diverse screenings and educational seminars aimed at promoting Mediterranean cinema and supporting cultural and artistic dialogue among participating countries, while maintaining its regional and international influence.
