Riyadh – Princess Sara bint Bandar bin Abdulaziz received the Chargé d’Affaires of the Libyan Embassy, Fateh Bashir Bashina. The meeting took place on Tuesday at the International Dates Council headquarters.
The visit marks Libya joining the group of member states in the Council. Princess Sara congratulated Libya on this step. She stated that Libya is a qualitative addition to joint international efforts. Libya’s agricultural resources and its distinguished position support the development of the date palm sector.
The meeting reviewed the current state of the palm sector in Libya. Both parties emphasized the strategic importance of the southern and western regions. These areas are the primary palm cultivation zones in the country.
Discussions covered the challenges facing the sector. Combatting the red palm weevil pest was a main priority. They stressed the importance of exchanging expertise. The Council aims to adopt modern preventive protocols to reduce the effects of this pest.
The two parties also explored ways to enhance academic cooperation. This will help enrich scientific content and technical data. Such cooperation serves both producers and investors in the sector.
Fateh Bashir Bashina highlighted the diversity and quality of Libyan dates. He showcased the unique characteristics of the most prominent local date varieties.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of activating joint cooperation. This will support food security sustainability and develop the global date economy.
