Tripoli – The General Telecommunications Authority announced on Saturday that Libya has officially joined the countries hosting global internet infrastructure.
The Authority explained that the inclusion of root servers in the cities of Tripoli and Benghazi on the global map of internet server locations represents a significant leap forward for the General Telecommunications Authority and reflects the Authority’s efforts and its strategic plan to develop digital infrastructure in Libya and enhance the country’s internet independence.
The Authority noted that this significant leap forward will greatly contribute to speeding up internet service in Libya, enhance cybersecurity, and integrate Libya as an active contributor to the structure of the global internet system.
The Authority praised the efforts of its Networks Office, the cooperation of the distinguished engineers at Al-Madar Al-Jadid company, and the contributions of the Libyan Internet Society in supporting the project and following up on the technical and coordination aspects.
It is worth noting that servers are the fundamental component of the internet’s structure, playing a pivotal role in directing data traffic across the global network, and are the essential building block that makes the internet work smoothly and securely.
