The price of flour increased from 210 Libyan dinars ($46) last week to 275 Libyan dinars ($60) on Sunday, confirmed Khreis Muhammad, chairman of Libya’s Bakers Union.
In press statements, Muhammad dismissed the pretext that the price increase was a repercussion of the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine.
“The mills have enough stock for 6 months,” he said. “And the crop, which is to be imported from Ukraine to Libya, is still in the process of cultivation.”
The union’s chairman called on authorities to investigate the rapid spike in price, and question the mills’ owners “because they control the stock”.
