Libyan Post Telecommunications and Information Technology Company (LPTIC) announced Saturday the temporary suspension of maintenance operations in al-Zawiya west of Tripoli as a result of armed clashes in the city, for fear that maintenance teams would be at risk.
The company said in a statement: “As a result of the clashes in the city of Al-Zawiya on Friday night, the cadres of the maintenance and installation teams are withdrawing temporarily, because the installation location is the highest building in the city of Al-Zawiya, and is more vulnerable to danger and projectiles.”
The company explained that this decision will delay the schedule for returning the service for some time, stressing its keenness on the safety and security of the working teams.
The outgoing Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid Dbeibeh, had made it clear that the al-Zawiya clashes were nothing but a family dispute, as he put it.
It is noteworthy that strong winds lead to fall of the main post tower in al-Zawiya city on Thursday. The tower was responsible for most of the communication networks in the city.
