Vise President of the former Government of National Accord (GNA), Ahmed Maiteeq, said the law to elect the president directly from the people is a positive step that pushes towards the establishment of a stable political and economic environment and the unification of divided institutions.
“We call on all Libyan parties to support it,” Maiteeq said on his official Facebook page on Friday.
It is noteworthy that the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) referred, on Thursday, to the Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Jan Kubis, a copy of Law No. (1) of 2021 regarding electing the President of State and determining his/her duties, powers and conditions for candidacy.
“There is no sovereignty of the state without the sovereignty of its people,” Maiteeq added.
“December 24 elections are presidential and parliamentary elections,” he pointed out.
