Economic expert Mokhtar Al-Jadeed considered the circulating news about the meeting between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, to be “erroneous and inaccurate.”
Al-Jadeed explained, in a post on his Facebook account, that what was leaked regarding the postponement of the budget’s approval holds no real meaning, as spending has continued throughout the past months without a budget, and nothing will prevent it from continuing until the end of the year.
He also described what was published about withdrawing the twenty-dinar banknote, activating currency exchange offices, and promoting electronic payments as “strange,” as these are settled issues that do not require consultation.
He stressed that the issue of reducing fees is not a decision to be made directly, but rather a result of either reducing spending or its continuation, which might necessitate an adjustment of the exchange rate.
The economic expert concluded his post by saying that what actually transpired in the meeting has not yet been revealed to the media.
