Benghazi – Member of the House of Representatives and the African Parliament, Yousef al-Fakhri, said that hosting the Second General Conference of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council in Benghazi on June 15-16 is an important step. He stated this move highlights Libya’s commitment to the event and marks its active return to regional and international affairs.
In a press statement Thursday evening, al-Fakhri said holding the conference in Benghazi, under the direct patronage of the House of Representatives, underscores Libya’s growing stature in both Africa and Asia. He added that Libya is playing an increasing role as an active partner in addressing issues shared by countries from both continents.
Al-Fakhri explained that the Asian-African Parliamentary Council includes several countries from Asia and Africa, which helps strengthen partnership and cooperation. He said the council also supports efforts to coordinate and consult on mutual interests.
He further noted that developing relations among member states serves common interests and reinforces political and economic cooperation. According to al-Fakhri, this will benefit the people and countries of both continents.
He said that Libya’s selection to host this international parliamentary event highlights its central role in its regional and continental surroundings. Al-Fakhri thanked the House of Representatives for organizing the conference and expressed confidence that its outcomes will strengthen political and economic ties among participating countries. He added the event will create wider prospects for future joint cooperation.
