The spokesperson for the General Water and Wastewater Company, Mohammed Karim, confirmed a noticeable increase. This increase is in the theft of storm drain and manhole covers. Karim explained this in special statements to the “Fawasel” platform.
The company installed several new covers recently. These covers were stolen again shortly after their installation. Karim noted a significant rise in theft rates. This is especially true in central Tripoli. The stolen covers are carbon-treated.
They are not recyclable. More than 700 covers have been stolen in Tripoli alone. The company spokesperson urged citizens to cooperate with authorities. They should report those involved. Thieves sell these covers to scrap metal dealers.
