Nigerian Report: Cyberattacks hit internet infrastructure. They target Libya Telecom and Technology.
A Nigerian Star FM Radio Network report highlighted recent cyberattacks. These attacks targeted internet infrastructure in Libya. Libya Telecom and Technology (LTT) was among the companies affected. A persistent Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack targeted LTT’s core systems. This raised new concerns about the robustness of the country’s digital infrastructure.
The report clarified the company’s response. The attacks forced LTT to activate emergency protocols immediately. This countered attempts to flood the core network. It also prevented disruption of internet and communication services. Swift intervention helped limit the damage. Essential services continued to function.
Services largely remained stable. However, Libyan digital systems are still fragile. A 2023 assessment confirmed this vulnerability. The report stressed that these attacks in Libya are not isolated. Major telecommunication companies across Africa are increasingly becoming targets.
Libya is among the African countries most vulnerable to cyber threats. This is due to weak protection measures. It also results from continuous attacks on national data centers. The report added that these recent attacks occurred at a “notable” time.
The attacks coincided with LTT’s comprehensive fiber optic upgrade. The company was also closing old telephone exchanges. This was part of a network modernization effort. Protecting these core systems is especially critical now. Their disruption would paralyze a significant part of the country.
