Senior officials at the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) held a virtual meeting on Wednesday to discuss the economic situation in Libya, according to a statement by the central bank.
“The whole world has a problem with Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s candidacy for the presidential elections,” said Joey Hood, a U.S. State Department official, on Wednesday evening.
Abdullah Blehaq, the spokesman of the House of Representatives, affirmed on Wednesday that there is “no real justification” to postpone the elections on December 24, as the parliament made progress on legal procedures.

The National Center for Disease Control in Libya (NCDC) has reported on Thursday that 1,479 people tested positive for COVID-19, marking 20 percent of the infection rate. The NCDC said that 23 others died of the virus, while 1,600 have recovered during the same reporting period.
The United States stated on Wednesday that it supports holding Libyan presidential and parliamentary elections as scheduled on December 24, after a leaked proposal, attributed to the American ambassador, drew controversy over suggesting election delay.
The foreign minister Libya’s neighbouring countries demanded on Wednesday “the withdrawal of foreign forces, foreign fighters and mercenaries, the unification of the military institution and the achievement of national reconciliation.”
Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla Mangoush, said it was agreed to activate the quadripartite agreement between Libya’s neighboring countries to secure the borders, noting that cooperation between these countries will support stability in Libya.
